Planning AheadWhen Mid Devon District Council considered the planning application for the second half of the Moorhayes Park housing estate, they negotiated with the developer London & Devonshire Homes that they would provide land and money for essential infrastructure to service the new houses they were building - and a 'Section 106' agreement was signed. Once this agreement had been reached, a residents group was required to run the new centre once built. The original agreement was to provide a new primary school, playing fields, community centre and public open space. Every new housing development on Moorhayes has contributed some funding towards the centre, and continues to do so. The school was later dropped from the plans, but the community centre and playing fields, etc were eventually provided 'for the benefit of the residents of Moorhayes'.
![]() A series of public meetings was held between 2003 and 2006 aimed at gathering a committee of residents who would be willing to volunteer as members of a residents' association, and who would then take on the job of managing the new centre. Now called the Moorhayes Community Association, the current committee members were elected in November 2007 at the Annual General Meeting, held at Two Moors School, Tiverton because the new centre was not quite ready for use. In January 2008 the Community Association formally moved in to the centre, and began promoting it and making the facilities available for the community to use. Today the committee meets monthly to oversee the running of the centre. |
